LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK eye surgery also known as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is used to correct near-sightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. LASIK is an outpatient procedure that takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

What To Expect With Your Procedure

A specialty laser is used to cut open your corneal flap to gain access to the cornea. The laser is then used to reshape different parts of your cornea depending on what type of vision you have. After the cornea has been corrected, the corneal flap is laid back over your eye, and should heal without stitches. After the surgery, yours eyes may itch, burn or water, but you should not be in pain. Your vision will be blurry at first but will clear up after 2-3 months. You will need someone to drive you home and a follow-up appointment will be made 1-2 days after surgery to ensure your eyes are healing properly.

If you are interested in LASIK, call ophthalmology Associates of Osborne at (412) 741-6776 to schedule an appointment.

PRK Surgery

PRK, also known as photorefractive keratectomy, was the precursor to LASIK. This surgery differs from LASIK because a laser is used to reshape the surface of the cornea without the flap to act as a protective piece for healing. The advantage is that we can correct more near-sightedness without having to cut that deep into your cornea. The results are just as good as LASIK but will be a longer healing process with post-operative eye drops. Dr. Clark has been performing this type of corrective surgery for over 20 years.
