Refractive lens exchange (ReLEx)
When patients are not good candidates for LASIK or PRK, for example due to high amounts of nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia), corneal disease, age, dry eye, personal preference or other factors, refractive lens exchange may be an option. It is the same procedure as cataract surgery, with all the same refractive options (laser-assisted surgery, astigmatism treatment, presbyopia-correcting multifocal lenses, monovision, etc.), but performed in the absence of a cataract. By definition, refractive lens exchange is not covered by insurance, since it is considered cosmetic.
Dr. Clark performs refractive lens exchange at the Heritage Valley Surgical Center in Moon Township, PA.
