iStent® Glaucoma Implant
iStent® is a very popular form of microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). It is a tiny titanium “snorkel” designed to bypass the trabecular meshwork which is typically blocked in glaucoma, to allow the aqueous fluid to flow directly from the anterior chamber into Schlemm’s canal and back out of the eye. iStent® is the smallest implant currently placed in the human body. Since it is made of titanium, it does not interfere with MRI’s, microwaves or airport scanners. It is performed at the same time as cataract surgery, and typically only takes 90 seconds or so.
